  • Lobos Creek Rehab - Volunteer Day THIS Saturday!

Come join Surfrider and other community activists in the Presidio on Saturday, March 14 for the final phase of planting and rehabbing Lobos Creek.

This has been an ongoing project and our chapter needs your help with the finishing touches.

Plan on a quick tour of Lobos Creek, the last remaining natural creek in San Francisco, followed by a tree planting and final non-native plant clearing for about an hour.

    Meet:
    Time: 10am - 12 noon, Saturday March 14
Meet at Baker Beach at Bowley Street

Arbor Day - March 14 - Celebration and Tree planting

Spreading the word on this event on behalf of the Department of Public Works:

Please join DPW and all of its community from 9AM to 2PM as we celebrate the completion of 25,000 trees planted in San Francisco. The kickoff celebration and ongoing community events will be held on Sunset Boulevard between Taraval and Ortega. Volunteer activities include: planting 300 trees along Sunset blvd. as well as tree maintenance, beginning a native plant garden, and much more! On top if that, there are lots of great activities including children's story time, a green Resource fair and rides on a cherry picker!

SB4 - Support a Ban on Smoking in State Parks and Beaches

Cigarette butts are frequently cast onto the sidewalk and streets, and then pushed into storm drains that flow to streams, rivers, bays, lagoons and ultimately the ocean. Unfortunately, this means ecosystems have a higher chance of being impacted by cigarette butts. Many smokers incorrectly believe that cigarette filters are made of biodegradable cotton. In fact, cigarette filters contain a type of plastic (cellulose acetate), which slowly breaks down, but unfortunately never fully decomposes.

Fortunately, Senator Jenny Oropeza (D-Long Beach) has introduced statewide legislation that bans smoking at State parks and beaches and will ultimately decrease the litter harming wildlife and creating wild fires. Please let your local Senator and Assemblymember know you support this legislation.

Take action now on this issue by signing (online) the petition to ban smoking in state parks and beaches! Sign Now >>

Next Beach Cleanup: Sunday March 15, 10am at Stairway 17, North Ocean Beach
